When scanning your old image to send you need to get the best quality file that you can. Your scanner software will give you the option to scan at different DPI (dots per inch) and you want the long side of your image to be about 3000pixels long if possible. Try and make sure that you are scanning just the photo and not the scanner bed, some scanner do this automatically and some you will need to draw a box round your photo after it has done its quick scan pass to show you what is in the scanner.
To make sure that you get the best resolution try and follow this scale..
|Original Image - 10" plus||Set scanner to 300Dpi|
|Original Image - 9 - 10"||Set scanner to 300Dpi|
|Original Image - 7 - 8"||Set scanner to 400Dpi|
|Original Image - 5 - 6"||Set scanner to 500-600Dpi|
|Original Image - 3 - 4"||Set scanner to 1200Dpi|
|Original Image - 1 - 2"||Set scanner to 2400Dpi|
Scan your image as a full colour photograph even if it is black and white and save your image with the least amount of compression in JPEG or TIFF format.
